Energy Talks Overshadowed By Military Conflict, Risks To Caspian Pipelines

On April 7, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Baku Elmar Mammadyarov will host a planned trilateral meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Baku. The meeting was intended to focus on bilateral and trilateral development projects such as the proposed North-South Transport Corridor that includes rail and power transmission lines, as well as regional energy cooperation. Although it is not a meeting of energy ministers, several timely and consequential energy issues were on the agenda, including the proposed “oil freeze” and joint development of Caspian Sea oil and gas resources.
